Weekly Review

Monday the 23rd: Started off the week the same as the last three weeks...with a chest cold.  This congestion is driving me crazy. I just can't seem to cough hard enough to clear it out. I tried to just ignore it away and keep going.

On another note...
Don't ever fret when you are running late; there is always someone else that is even further behind than you are. i found this guy at the red light...Shaving while driving can be just as dangerous as texting while driving.
Both D & B had dentist appointments Monday afternoon.
Monday evening, Stroker washed and waxed my car.  I love that man!
Tuesday afternoon, D had an orthodontist appointment.

Tuesday evening, Stroker washed and waxed his truck...

then we transplanted some cactus.
Wednesday evening, Stroker washed and waxed the enclosed trailer...
there was still some daylight left, so he mowed the lawn.
Thursday, I was beginning to feel like my chest congestion was migrating to my sinus's.
Stroker was just worn out from all the work he had done throughout the week.
We sat out on the patio for a while Thursday evening.
Friday, I woke up with a sinus headache and  finally said enough is enough! After I got the kids delivered to school, I went to the doctor, got three prescriptions filled and went back home.

Saturday, we got up early and took Devin to the barber shop.
We also visited my mom for a while that afternoon.

Today was Stacia's diaper bash. I went by to pick up my mom so we could carpool to the shower.
I thought I was running late, but turns out we were an hour early.

Week In Review

The past week has slipped right passed me. This is my attempt to remember at least one event per day whether it be interesting, boring, helpful or even just a waste of blog space. Surely I can recall something for each of the last seven days. Here goes...
Tuesday the 17th: Attended "Open House" at Brooke's school (as if we didn't already know our way around). I signed up to join the PTO (at Brooke & Devin's schools) which is something I have been meaning to do since Devin started Kindergarten (running just a little behind on that too).
Wednesday the 18th: Record flooding for our county on the way to school. We pretty much had to paddle our way in. Roads and bridges washed away, (literally) culverts overflowed, and the people panicked. Here is a view of our street from Willow Avenue. Keep in mind there is an approximate 10' culvert below the water level.
School's closed down at 1:30 after the rain stopped and the water had a chance to recede enough for traffic to move. We joined Bucket and Jennifer for dinner at El Tap that evening. Luckily no water made it inside the restaurant that day.

Thursday the 19th: Schools were closed all day due to flooding issues. The kids enjoyed the day off while the rest of the county talked about the weather. Thursday night, Stroker pulled the chain on the ceiling fan in the living room to turn the light on and the chain broke. It wasn't a simple break that could be easily fixed, it broke off inside the light fixture. We disassembled the fixture and attempted to fix it, but no luck. I gave Stroker a hard time as if he did it on purpose, but we both know those things just wear out and break after a while.
Friday the 20th: I got up early to get a good start to Friday morning. I went through my usual routine to get the kids out of the bed which includes fanning Devin's comforter...that's when Karma set in. On my second big lift of the comforter, I accidentally caught the ceiling fan blade in his bedroom and kerplunk...it hit the floor. "Oh Crap!" I thought. I broke the blade clean off. When Stroker made his routine 6:30 call to me that morning I had to explain that we now had two broken ceiling fans. We have since repaired the switch on the living room fan; now just to get Devin's fixed.
Saturday the 21st:  was a lot more productive. I was the first one up. I took all the recycle stuff to the recycle center, I took Cletus' bed to the big washing machine at the laundry mat and got it all nice and clean. I went to Staples to replace another ink cartridge since 3 of the 5 colors have ran out this week. I was at Sonic by 8:30 getting my "caffeine fix" for the day and getting breakfast for the family.
We had to make a run to Monterey at 1:30. On our way back, there was a hitchhiker at the "on" ramp in Monterey, so I made Stroker stop to  give him a ride. It was Stroker's first hitchhiker so he was a nervous wreck. The guy rode in the back of the truck, so it's not like he could slit our throat from back there. Stroker kept watching him and saying "he is getting something out of his bag!'. Turns out...it was food to snack on. We only gave him a ride to the Jefferson exit, but every mile helps get him a little closer to his destination (where ever that is).
Today was Ansley's 8th birthday party, so we loaded up and went to "The Mellow Mushroom". The pizza was good, the party was fun and everybody went home happy. We stopped in Lebanon on the way back for a little dose of retail therapy. The kids found a few new outfits and so did Stroker.

All Aboard the Magic Bus...

Monday

Just another Manic Monday

It all started last night when Stroker had me to take a Zyrtec at 8:30. I like to have NEVER got out of the bed this morning. I thought I would be late getting the kids to school for sure, but they made it on time (somehow).
I spent four hours of my day tinkering with the formatting on my website.
During the process, Brookelynn accidentally knocked over a full glass of sweet tea (a lot of it went in the keyboard).

This may be the last night that the keys will work.

I had better finish all things computer related before the tea starts to dry. I had planned to print out some post cards, but just my luck, the printer ran out of ink after the first page.

I hope luck is a bit more on my side tomorrow.

Concert Recap

I don't know where the time has gone over the last four days. I didn' t even get a chance to come back home and take a nap Thursday morning after dropping the kids off at school (to catch up on the sleep I missed Wednesday night from the JB concert).
I spent Thursday  cleaning the house, going for a wax and pedicure, and going to lunch with my mom.
Friday evening, we debated on going to the fair, but it was just too hot. We went for dinner at Chili's and called it a night.
Yesterday was another hot one. I heard on the news that this year is officially the hottest year on record...and I believe it. We went to lunch with Mildred, Nan and Paradise at O'Charley's yesterday. There was a good storm that came through around 8pm that helped cool the air for a little while.
Another good rain system came through at lunch today while the kids and I were at my moms, but everything quickly heated back up as soon as the sun came out. Stroker, the kids and I went to Mildreds for a good home cooked meal around 4pm. Brooke and I made two laps around the park with Heather and Aysiah just before dark. I need to start doing that again every day, but I probably won't.
Anyway, how was the concert you ask?!?
EXCELLENT!..There were a couple of girls that we didn't know that performed before Sean Kingston and Iyaz. JB didn't hit the stage till almost 9pm and he performed till about 10:40. That was the absolute loudest event that Stroker or I have ever experienced. Here are a few of the blurry pictures that I took.
Here are a couple of snippets that I recorded at the concert. These are not very good quality, but it's enough footage for us to reminisce on what a great time we had.

Wednesday

Concert Day

After school today, we are picking up Brooke's BFF and we are off to Nashville for dinner and the concert.  Brookelynn is excited. We are in for a long day.

Tuesday

Running a Temperature

Has anyone got a thermometer?  I think I'm coming down with "Bieber Fever". Tomorrow night is the concert and we can't wait! Brookelynn has got her outfit picked out,  her nails painted and her ticket on standby.
As for the last week, well...it's been another busy one. By the end of each day I'm too tired to sit down and blog about it.
Last Thursday, I took my car to have the tires rotated because they were overdue for a rotation (again). I'm so irresponsible when it comes to scheduled maintenance. We went to dad's Thursday evening to get the stuff that he and Phyllis had drove down to Alabama to pick up for us (because he is a good dad like that). Phyllis cooked a spaghetti dinner for all of us, it was almost dark when we left, but we didn't haul any hitchhiker bugs back to C-ville that night.

Friday evening we went to dinner at Bobby Q's for some good 'ol  bar-b-q. It's been a while since we have ate there, but it was just as good as we remembered it. We went by Mildred's afterwords to put some pictures on her computer.

Saturday was our annual Birthday dinner at Golden Corral...compliments of my dad. There were 24 of us this year. Next year there will be two more little ones to add to the guest list.  After dinner, Brookelynn invited her friends Kelsey and Alyssa to a sleep over at our house. By midnight, they were ready for bed (thank goodness).

Sunday was a day to catch up on a few chores at home, then we rode around town and checked out a couple "open houses" while Brookelynn went swimming with Kelsey. Stroker took it upon himself to start chopping down my cactus plants. Mildred had cooked dinner and called to invite us to come by to eat...so we did. While we were there, she asked me to look for a place to stay in Destin, so I browsed the web for a bit. I'm not planning to do any serious looking till about a week before time to go.  I don't like to "plan" a vacation. Every time I do, I end up being tired of the vacation before we get there. I like to vacation on a whim.

Monday, I attempted to organise a little more, but what I really need is a big warehouse. Seriously, I could be the most organised person in the world, if only I had the space. I also rearranged a couple of pieces of furniture in the bedroom.

Today, we had Jett over for company while Stacia and Delano attended their last birthing class. Just think, a month from now we will have baby blessings.

Wednesday

1 Year Anniversary

It's the 1 year anniversary of my blah.. blah... blog.  I wasn't sure if I would stay consistent with it or not, but to my own surprise..I post quite regularly.  Of course my stories are never packed full of drama or useful information, but it is the way I like to reflect on our life since it is flying by so quickly.
I'm looking forward to another year sharing more of the day to day
Happenings at the Hayes House.

We also went to my dad's for a few hours. He and Phyllis are making the second trip to Alabama for us since our schedule isn't going to allow us time to drive down ourselves. I thank God for blessing me with the people in my life.  They were truly hand picked by God.

Tomorrow evening, we will head back down to White County to dad's. I plan to head home before dark this time though. Tonight, we rode home with a huge flying bug lercking somewhere in the truck (and you know how I am with bugs). We all sat in our seats like statues.
When we made it back to C-ville, we hit the McDonald's drive through and apparently that was a hungry bug. He started flopping and flying around at the sight of the golden arches. After most of us suffered a brief panic attack, he landed by Brooke's window. Stroker calmly hit the window button to roll it down and Voilà...he flew out.

This Saturday is the annual dinner at Golden Corral that my dad treats us all to in honor of our birthday's. We are looking forward to that too.

Tuesday

Only in Tennessee

Not accomplishing much of anything the last couple of days. When I sit down at the computer I somehow get side tracked with random internet junk.
Check out this remake...it's called
 Tennessee Boys(just click the link)

Monday

Sunday Scramble

  • Yesterday started with another road trip
  • and then we met up with my brother-n-law, his fiance and family for lunch at El Tapatio in Sparta (since the one is Cookeville is closed for a remodel).
  • Immediately after lunch, I met up with Stacia and Darlene to attend a bridal shower for my nephew's fiance. She was loaded down with plenty of gifts, and this was only one of three (or four) bridal showers that she was given.
  • After the shower, I went back to moms to visit for a few minutes.
  • I had a hair appointment scheduled, so I couldn't stay too long...then had to make a trip to Wal-Mart for snacks and lunch this week.
  • I finally made it back home just a few minutes after 10pm.
  • I also received a call that my grandmother had fell and was in the hospital with a broken hip. Her hip replacement is scheduled for tomorrow.
Today, I didn't accomplish much of anything. I stopped by the hospital a couple of times to check in on my grandmother (and my dad...because I know how worried he is).
I took Brookelynn to Little Caesar's and let her go in to buy the pizza since she wants to be a grown up.
She was doing a great job, right up till she paid for them. When she received her change she headed for the door. The lady said "Hey...you forgot your pizza's!"  When Brooke got in the car, she laid the seat back and said "just drive mom...I am sooo embarrassed"...I told her she done a fine job for her first time making a purchase completely on her own.
I also told her about when I was a little girl my BFF always wanted someone else to do the cashier money exchange...  Sooner or later, we all have to face the cashier on our own.
