Saturday

Finalizing July

July ended before I knew it. I spent the last week of the month buying school supplies, ordering shoes for Devin since he could not find any shoes in Cookeville that he liked in a size 13. Our trailer spent the weekend taking a trip to Memphis. Darlene and Gary got Trent all moved into his new place. Brookelynn and Devin spent the weekend preparing themselves mentally for a new school year. I tried to get myself prepared for the 2012-13 school year too...actually that's a lie, I tried NOT to think about it.

Wednesday

Makeovers

I felt like I was ready for something different with my hair.
I had a hair appointment yesterday.
I went with dark underneath and blond on top.
I really like the way it turned out.
Our bedroom had a makeover a few weeks ago too. We love our new floor. We still haven't got pictures back on the wall or anything back in the bookcase.

Tuesday

Drive Thru

As I pulled up to the drive thru window, the cashier said “ I have ran out of receipt tape…I will be right back".  She left the drive thru window and the cash drawer wide open.  Three of four minutes later, she came back. Wow.

Random Events of Last Week

Whew, I did not realize that I was so far behind in blog world.
We have spent the last week in high gear.
  • There has been three nights of Vacation Bible School.
  •  Brookelynn had a sleepover at Jalyn's and went to Nashville Shores.
  • Devin spent the entire weekend at Braden's.
  • We visited mom and my brother over the weekend.
  • I have been organising the master bedroom closet.
  • Made several trips back and forth to Lowes to get shelving and stuff to get the closet organised.
  • Brookelynn lost her last baby tooth. Braces are just around the corner.
  •  We cleaned out all the size 10/12 clothes in Brooke's closet.
  • She now feels the need to go on a shopping spree.
  • The first day of school was yesterday. I feel even older now that I have a middle school child and a junior in high school.
  • We went to visit my dad and then visited my sister yesterday afternoon.
  • I made a caramel pie (yum-o)
  • My computer has a bad attitude and has decided to stop downloading photos from my camera. I will have to work on that.

Sunday

Alabama, Shopping and Grilling

Well, here it is. The last week of summer break 2012. I told the kids to enjoy sleeping in this week because it will go by fast. The entire summer has flown by. Brookelynn and I went to do a little bit of "back to school" shopping yesterday. It started out as shopping for a bedroom rug, but quickly turned into school shopping once we got in the stores. She got a few new clothes and a pair of shoes.
She also got some school supplies. I'm trying to get Devin to show me what he wants for school, but he doesn't seem to take interest. I think he is in denial that school is so close.  While we were out, I bought some pretty tiki torches for the patio.
As for how we have spent the last three days...

Friday started in the early morning hours, 5:30 am we hit the road and headed to Alabama.
We had breakfast, drove through the Wildlife Refuge, shopped around and checked out a couple of parks. It was a quick day trip and it sure wore us out.
Saturday morning was nice and sunny. By lunch time, the clouds rolled in and the rain came down. It rained ALL day. Brookleynn and I got out in the rain to do the shopping that I mentioned earlier, and all of us got out for dinner at El Tap, but it sure was a soggy mess running in and out in the rain.
Today at church, I ran the sound booth. Stroker and the kids have asked me all week if I was nervous about doing it, but it didnt seem as though it was going to be too tough of a job...and it wasn't.
Stroker grilled chicken on his new grill this evening. Our other grill had lasted over 10 years, so we were way overdue for a new one.

So, that is our weekend...in a nutshell.

Thursday

Doctor, Doctor

This has definitely been a fast week. I have spent 90% of it dealing with doctors. I got a text from my brother Monday at 3pm that read "ambulance is taking mom to hospital. Chest pain"
I went to the hospital and met up with mom in the ER. The pain had stopped and she was feeling better. She was admitted to the hospital for observation and they ran test all throughout the night. I "slept" in a chair. The doctors finally determined that she did not have a heart attach. She was discharged around 1:45 on Tuesday. We were both worn out. After a quick trip through the McDonald's drive thru, I delivered mom back home.
Wednesday, Brookelynn had a 9:30 doctor appointment for her yearly check up. I woke up with a headache and still felt worn out, but we managed to make it to her doctor's appointment. Her visit had a good report; however, she wound up with an immunization shot and had to get her finger pricked for tests. She was not a happy camper.
One good note: Stroker found my car keys yesterday afternoon that have been missing for the past week and a half.

Sunday

Sunday Seven

Today was a rather busy day.
1.  Church Service
2.  Baptism Service for new members
3.  Visit with mom
4.  Bowling World with church members
5.  Cooked dinner at home for a change
6.  Painted two walls
7.  Got the closet shelving up

Saturday

Hit the Floor

Our bedroom floor was finished today. Stroker made a run to the landfill with the old flooring and wood that we tore out. Brookelynn spent the day at Cassidy's and plans to spend the night. Devin decided to go to Braden's today and spend the night. Seems as if everybody is avoiding this construction zone that we have going on around here. The bedroom is coming together nicely. Shouldn't be long now until our room is back to normal.

Friday

CCE Friends Day

Brookelynn labeled today as Cane Creek Elementary Friends Day.
For the last couple of weeks, she has made plans for three of her friends to come over for an afternoon of waterslide and a cookout.
A couple of her friends will be attending a different middle school than Brooke next year, so she wanted to have one last play day with them.
She is pretty excited.
As for me and Stroker,  it is another HOT day and our house is a construction zone.
Not the typical party situation that we enjoy, but we are making the best of it.

Thursday

We are at it again

8:00 am we got a call from the remodel man. We had been on his waiting list for a few weeks. He asked if he could start on our closet and floors TOMORROW.  "Sure" I told him, but in reality, we are not ready. We spent this entire day moving furniture out of the bedroom, taking off base boards, tearing up carpet and taking down doors. Our shed is stuffed and the rest of the bedroom furniture is strewn all over the house.  It is past our bedtime and we still have more to do. We have stirred up enough dust that we will be sneezing for weeks. Why do love these little home projects so much?

Riverfront

This year, to celebrate Independence Day, we visited our friends Erin, Brandon and Ansley. We checked out their new home, Brandon fired up the grill and cooked some grilled chicken. We toured some of the other homes in their neighborhood and then headed to Nashville to watch the fireworks at Riverfront park. We had a really good view and the fireworks were beautiful.
It was fun spending time with friends that we don't get to hang out with much. Good Times Good Times.

Tuesday

Bottle Rockets

Last night, Devin asked me to buy him some bottle rockets. Here is how the conversation went.
Devin: "Mom, will you get me some bottle rockets?"
Me: "You still need to get your 'learners permit'. Im not buying any bottle rockets until you get your permit."
Devin: "I will go tomorrow to get my permit."
Me: "We will go to the firework stand afterwords."

So today, we sat at the Department of Motor Vehicles for over two hours, he took the test, passed, and got his permit. As we were leaving the DMV, our conversation went like this...
Me: "You did it. Don't you feel good about yourself? You got that out of the way."
Devin: "Can we go get the bottle rockets now?"   Wow...Really?!

Although Devin only did it for the bottle rockets, we went to dinner to celebrate anyway. Darlene joined us at Olive Garden and then she bought Devin a few more fireworks to go with the bottle rockets that we had purchased.

Sunday

Triple Digit Temps.

No images to post. It is too hot to take pictures.
It has been a sufficating weekend to say the least. The temperatures have been in the triple digits for several days straight. These are definately the hottest temperatures that I can recall for Tennessee. It reminds me of the time that we went to Vegas and visited the Hoover Dam. It was 110 degrees that day.
Okay, as for the weekend recap.
Friday night, we went to dinner at O'Charleys and invited Mildred and Nan to join us. Saturday, we attended Aysiah's indoor pool party, which was a great idea to have it inside. With the temp hitting 106 that day, it was too hot to be outside (even in water). Before heading home, we stopped at El Tapatio for dinner.
Sunday (today), we visited my mom for a while. As I type this entry, Brookelynn and a couple of her friends are playing on the water slide.  In this weather, you literally have to wait until the sun goes down to play outdoors. It is almost 7pm and and it is still 102 degrees.  Stroker, Devin, Brookelynn and I had our fun on the slide for about an hour before Brookelynn and her buddies took it over.
