Looking Forward to Spring Break

Last weekend flew by pretty fast. Eight of us went to Mount Juliet to eat Friday night then visited a couple stores. Saturday was sunny and warm so we were outside all day and made two trips to White County. Made a couple of trips to Lowe's for fertilizer and stuff for the yard. Brooke wanted to pick out her own flowers for some planters that we have outside. She told us that she didn't want to buy "firms" (ferns) though, so she picked out some colorful blooming plants instead.
We spent Sunday at Mildred's enjoying the turkey, dressing, gravy, ham, sweet potatoes, mac n cheese, turnip greens, green beans, potato salad, corn, rolls, chocolate pie, lemon ice box pie and banana pudding. No wonder I feel sluggish today.
This week has started with a trip to Nashville and a dentist appointment. It can only get better from here.
I know this because everyday this week is supposed to be warm and sunny, plus Friday is a holiday! Everyone is going to get together for our annual egg coloring and cookout.
Even better...next week the kids are on spring break. I have been googling Universal Studios Orlando. We haven't been there since Brookelynn was 3.

Weekend in 10

1. Friday evening: We all enjoyed the company of little Jett. We walked over to the playground and watched the kids play on the swings and the slides. Brookelynn slid so much the static electricity had her hair standing on its ends.2. Saturday morning: Woke up to the warmest, most beautiful day thus far in 2010.

3. Mid morning Saturday: As we traveled down Highway 70, we counted 86 motorcycles in a convoy directly behind us.
4. Saturday afternoon: Spent time outside because it was way too nice of a day not to.

5. Saturday Evening: Went to El Tap with the fam. and ordered "same thang" for dinner.

6. Saturday Night: Made it through the entire night without a sneezing fit. Not one tissue pulled from the box that night. For those of you that know my allergies, this is big news.

7. Sunday morning: Woke up feeling great after a good night's sleep.

8. Sunday mid morning: Thought I might do something unusual today, so I headed to the grocery store.

9. Sunday mid day: Prepared a home cooked meal and a cake...believe it or not!
10. Sunday afternoon: Spent an hour on dishes and cleaning the kitchen. Just a subtle reminder of why we always eat out.

Thursday

Spring

The weather today was sooo nice. I spent some time outside organizing the shed (which was overdue). I always feel good after I check off something that has been on my "To Do List".
Tomorrow is supposed to be just as nice outside. I love the new time. We may be only gaining an hour of daylight, but it feels like a lot more.
The "official" first day of spring is only two days away and spring break is only 2 weeks away. Hmmm...I wonder if we should pack up and get away for a while?

Wednesday

Spring Photo's

Aside from the Central Heat and air unit going out, the week has went well.
Monday evening, we went to White County and visited my sister for a while, stopped by my nephews to wish him a "Happy Birthday" and finished off the trip with a quick visit to my mom. We were all worn out by the time we got home. This extra 30 minute school stuff makes a difference. Speaking of school, Monday afternoon, I received an email from Devin's school that Tuesday was Spring photo day. Talk about advance notice...:( I would have liked to have taken Devin to the barber...oh well.

By Tuesday, Devin got ready for school and totally forgot about Spring photo's (and so did I). Tuesday night, I asked the same question that I always ask on picture day. "Did you smile nice for your picture?" I asked. You should have seen the look I received. "Mom" Devin said. "I looked like a TOTAL redneck...I forgot and wore that camouflage shirt, and the background was tree's". I laughed and laughed. I can't wait to see those pictures.

Today was Cletus' groom appointment and boy does he look better. He even looks like he feels better.
Tommorrow, someone is supposed to show up to fix the Air Unit and empty our wallets.

Sunday

First Cook out of the year

Last night, 16 of us met up at El Tapatio for dinner. During dinner, Mildred informed Stroker that we were going to have a cook out at our house today. So, that is what we did. Altogether, we had 21 people over today for this years first round of grilled hamburgers, hotdogs, potato salad, baked beans, chips, dip, corn on the cob and homemade pies for dessert. "Yum-O" as Rachel Ray would say. We had planned to go by the Home Show today, but just never found the time. I didn't get the chance to walk another lap around the lake either. I could use about 10 more degrees of sunshine before my four mile walks become a regular habit again anyway.

Saturday

1st week of March

Monday: hmmm. ..I can't seem to remember. I suffer from short term memory loss.

Tuesday: Took Devin to the orthodontist right after school.

Wednesday: Stacia sent me a text to tell me about the opening of "Rib City" today and that everything was half price tonight. Turns out, it was "invitation only" tonight. Ended up having steak for dinner with my family, my sister and Gary at "Logan's".

Thursday: I suffered a reality shock of just how fast my kids are growing up. We spent a couple of hours at the high school registering Devin for his upcoming freshman year.

Friday: Stroker and I went to a Family Engagement event at Brooke's school in honor of Dr. Seuss's birthday. The theme was "Oh the Places We Will Go" (from one of Dr. Seuss's books). Each family (that attended) stood up to talk about and show pictures to the 2nd graders (and their parents) of somewhere they had visited. We told about our trip out West. We brought pictures from Las Vegas, Hoover Dam, Hollywood, L.A. and Santa Monica Beach. We had a good time and the kids loved the photos.
For dinner, seven of us (Stroker, Devin, Brookelynn, Darlene, Gary, Trent and I) made it over to "Rib City" to try out the BBQ. Being the restaurant commeasures that we are, we rate the restaurant with 2.5 Stars. The food was good, but overpriced for what you get. "Bobby Q's" has better prices on the same menu. Some might even say that "Bobby Q's" even has better bbq.

Today: The sun is out, the temperature is up, and Spring is just around the corner (we hope). Brookelynn and I headed over to make a lap around the lake. It was great except the cool breeze gave me an ear ache about a mile and a half into the walk. Brookelynn rode her bike and wound up with cold achy hands from the wind.
We might just get out there and make another lap tomorrow :)
